Spiny Oyster Shell and Sterling Pendant Necklace with Two-Strands of Spiny Oyster Shell Nuggets and Sterling
Spiny Oyster shells are found in the Sea of Cortez, off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. Spiny Oysters are prized for their brilliant colors, which include red, orange, purple, yellow and White. Our Necklace showcases a striking Spiny Oyster Shell and Sterling Pendant by Navajo artist Leroy James. The Shell is Light and Dark Orange with striations, and is set on a Sterling Plate with a Linear Design, 3 Sterling Balls and Custom Bail. The Pendant is stamped on the back with the artist’s hallmark, “L James” in cursive and “S/S.” We’ve paired the Pendant with Two Strands of perfectly color-matched Spiny Oyster Shell Nuggets, obtained from Red Shell Jewelry. John Hornbeck, the owner of Red Shell, is considered to be “the King of Spiny Oysters,” and uses Hookah Gear when diving for the shells (no scuba tanks are used). The Nuggets are highlighted by Sterling Silver Beads and Spacers, including “Navajo Pearls” by accomplished Native American Artist Larry Pinto. The Necklace is finished with Sterling Rounds and a Sterling Toggle Clasp, and adorned with a Sterling Silver Kokopelli, a Native American icon that embodies the American Southwest. This piece weighs 132 grams and is 25-1/2 inches long. The Pendant is 3-1/8” by 1-1/2” including a 3/4” bail. Pair this great piece with it’s matching Three-Strand Spiny Oyster Shell & Sterling Bracelet.
