This outstanding Necklace showcases a Sterling Silver Buffalo Pendant by Johnson Todacheeny. Todacheeny is an award winning Navajo designer and artisan who worked in the 1960’s at the White Hogan, a world renowned jewelry studio in Scottsdale, AZ. The Buffalo is a substantial piece at 2-1/4 inches wide by 1-3/4 inches tall, plus the Bail. It is beautifully stamped and etched with Native American symbols, including a Bear Track, thought to symbolize reflection and self-observation. The front of the Buffalo is slightly convex, adding dimension, and the Sterling has a polished sheen. The Pendant hangs from a hinged Bail, allowing greater movement. The piece is stamped on the back with the artist’s hallmark and “Sterling.” It is in excellent condition.
We’ve paired the Sterling Buffalo with 3 strands of Azurite Nuggets, adding color and texture to the design. The Azurite is graduated — ranging in dimension from 9-to-18mm — and displays myriad hues of blue & green splashed with chocolate brown. The blend of color is eye-catching. The Azurite is complemented by dark brown Pen Shell Heishi, 4mm cerulean blue Apatite Rounds, 4mm navy blue Faceted Glass Bicones, and 6mm translucent blue Faceted Glass Rondelles. These elements add color depth and subtle sparkle. The stones are highlighted by six 11mm Oval-Wrapped Sterling Silver Rounds, which have subtle oxidation to enhance the oval patterns. At the top of the Necklace the 3 strands of Azurite transition to 3 strands of Apatite, streamlining the silhouette and ensuring a comfortable fit. The Necklace is is finished with a Sterling Silver Toggle Clasp and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm. The piece weighs 230 grams (about 8 ounces) and is 22 inches long, plus the Pendant (when wearing, a vertical length of about 10-1/2 inches).
