This striking Necklace showcases an Obsidian and Sterling Silver Pendant by Nevada Silversmith Jim Daggett. Obsidian is a volcanic glass formed when lava cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth. Our Obsidian was discovered near Mono Lake, CA, in the foothills of the Lake's surrounding mountains. The jet black rock was meticulously fashioned into a rectangular shape and polished to a soft sheen. The finished cabochon is wrapped in a raised Sterling Silver Bezel, and set on Sterling Plate that has been cut to mirror the shape of the Stone. The Sterling Plate has been decoratively notched and stamped, adding visual interest. The Pendant drapes from a V-Shaped Sterling Silver Bail. It is stamped on the back with the artist's hallmark and "Sterling."
We've paired the Pendant with 3 Strands of Hypersthene Rectangles. The 10-by-15mm Rectangles emulate the shape of the Pendant and are beautifully shaped and polished. The color of the stone is black, with an iridescence that flashes silvery gray. The Hypersthene is complemented by 4mm jet black Onyx Rounds, and by fourteen 5mm Oxidized Sterling Silver Rounds. The Sterling Rounds have been polished at the circumference, radiating a subtle shine. At the top of the Necklace the 3 strands of Hypersthene transition to 3 strands of Onyx Rounds, streamlining the silhouette and ensuring a comfortable fit. The Necklace is finished with Sterling Silver Rounds and Ornate Twisted Toggle Clasp, and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm. The piece weighs 165 grams (about 6 ounces) and is 21-1/2 inches long plus the Pendant, which is 3-1/8 inches by 1-1/2 inches including the 5/8-inch Bail (when wearing, a vertical length of about 10-1/2 inches).
