This exceptional Necklace showcases a Pyritized Ammonite and Sterling Silver Pendant by Nevada Silversmith Jim Daggett. The Stone is a fossil – estimated to be over 150 million years old – that was formed in the Volga River Area, near Saratov, Russia. The ammonite, an extinct group of mollusc animals, died in a sea that contained a heavy concentration of iron. This iron reacted with sulfur in the water and formed the iron pyrite, which replaced the entire Ammonite except the outer shell. The result was this striking Pyritized Ammonite, encased now in Sterling Silver. The Stone is oval-shaped, approximately 2 inches by 1-3/8 inches in dimension. Its outer circumference is near black, while the Pyrite in the center is silvery-pewter. The Pyrite is crystallized except at the surface of the stone, where it has been polished to a smooth sheen. The Pyritized Ammonite is encased in a handcrafted surround of Sterling Silver, and embellished with Curved Arcs fashioned from hand-rolled and hammered Sterling. At the bottom right of the Pendant are 3 Sterling Silver Balls, approximately 7-to-8mm in width. There is also a Sterling Ball at the top of the Pendant, which forms the base of the v-shaped Bail. The Pendant is stamped on the back with the artist's hallmark and "Sterling." We've paired this wonderful Art Pendant with 2 strands of oval-shaped Black Pearls, which have been polished to a soft luster. The Pearls are color-matched to the Pendant stone and are 7-by-10mm in dimension. They are complemented by 4mm Pyrite Nuggets and 5mm bronze Czechoslovakian Nailheads; both of these elements are faceted and emit a subtle shine. The stones are highlighted by six 8mm Sterling Silver Bench-Made Rounds, which mirror the bright tones of the Pendant. At the top of the Necklace the 2 strands of Pearls transition to 2 strands of Czechoslovakian Nailheads, streamlining the silhouette. The Necklace is finished with Sterling Silver Rounds and a Hammered Sterling Toggle Clasp, and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm. The piece weighs 130 grams and is 20-1/4 inches long plus the Pendant, which is 3 inches by 2 inches including a 3/8-inch Bail.
