This amazing Necklace displays a Pyritized Ammonite and Sterling Silver Pendant by Nevada Silversmith Jim Daggett. The Stone is a fossil – estimated to be over 150 million years old – that was formed in the Volga River Area, near Saratov, Russia. The ammonite, an extinct group of mollusc animals, died in a sea that contained a heavy concentration of iron. This iron reacted with sulfur in the water and formed the iron pyrite, which replaced the entire Ammonite excepting the outer shell. The result was our beautiful Pyritized Ammonite, encased now in Sterling Silver. The Pendant is oval shaped and is 83mm tall by 46mm wide (approx. 3-1/4" tall by 1-7/8" wide) plus an intricate Bail. The Stone has been Prong Set then wrapped in a Square Sterling Bezel. The piece is stamped on the back with the artist's hallmark and "Sterling." We've matched the Pendant with thirty-two 8mm Oxidized Sterling Silver Rounds, and two 10-by-20mm Sterling Silver Cylinders. The Cylinders are flanked by Sterling 6mm Rounds. The Necklace is finished with 44mm Curved Sterling Silver Cones and a 13-by-21mm Sterling Lobster Clasp, and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm. The clasp has a 3-inch Sterling Extension Chain, allowing the wearer to adjust the length. The piece weighs 112 grams and is 17-1/2 inches long, plus the Extension, plus the Pendant.
