This classy Necklace features a Button Cover Pendant handcrafted by Nevada Silversmith Jim Daggett. The Pendant is two-sided, with one side displaying a vintage, 1-3/8-inch Sterling Silver Button Cover*, wrapped in a rolled Sterling Bezel. The reverse side has a matching 7/8-inch vintage Sterling Silver Button Cover, set on a base of hand-hammered Polished Copper. The mixed metals pair nicely with the classic Sterling Button Covers; a bit of Southwest history with contemporary flair.
We've paired the Pendant with 3 strands of blue and green Turquoise Nuggets, ranging in length from 8-to-18mm. The Turquoise has flecks of golden-brown matrix, adding character to the Stones. The Turquoise is interspersed with 4mm Olive Shell Heishi, adding dimension and expanding the color palate. On either side of the Pendant are two 9mm Sterling Silver "Navajo Pearls" by artist Larry Pinto, complementing the Pendant and adding subtle shine. At the top of the Necklace the Turquoise transitions to Olive Shell Heishi, streamlining the profile and ensuring wearer comfort. The Necklace is finished with Sterling Silver Cones and a Wrapped Sterling Silver Toggle Clasp, and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm. The piece weighs 82 grams and is 21-3/4 inches long, plus the Pendant, which is 1-1/2 inches in diameter plus a 1/8-inch Bail (when wearing, a vertical length of about 10 inches),
* The Sterling Silver Button Covers were purchased in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the mid-1970's from a skilled Native American artist. Button Covers traditionally were used to ornament shirt buttons, and had a base metal backing designed to slide over the button and hold the decoration in place. To fashion this Pendant, the back piece of each Button Cover was removed, leaving only the Sterling Silver face. These two pieces were then incorporated into the Pendant design.
