This outstanding Necklace showcases 2 Sterling Silver Tufa Cast Pendants by Navajo artist Merle House. House is an accomplished Silversmith from Gallup, New Mexico. He crafted the Pendants in a mold made from tufa stone, which is a compressed volcanic ash material found on the Navajo reservation. This traditional design technique is practiced by only a few experienced artists and is very labor intensive. First, a stone of the proper size is cut in half, and the 2 halves are rubbed together to create a flush surface. An opening, called a sprue hole, is carved at the top of the mold. The design is meticulously carved into the stone, then the 2 pieces are clamped together. Molten silver is poured through the sprue hole to fill the mold. Once cooled, the mold is broken apart to release the finished piece. The results are impressive. Each Merle House Pendant displays the image of a Kokopelli, complimented by a geometric design. The Pendants are imprinted with texture from the stone, producing a unique finish. Each piece has been oxidized to bring the patterns into high relief. The skill and artistry is remarkable. We've paired the Pendants with 4 strands of Bamboo Coral Triangles, which are offset-drilled to enhance the Coral's profile. The Coral is a striking burgundy-red and is polished to a soft sheen. It is spaced by 2.5mm Tortoise Shell Heishi, and accented by translucent gray Czech Glass Ovals and Silver Glass Bicones. These beads are faceted, giving off a subtle sparkle. The stones are highlighted by ten 8mm Oxidized Sterling Silver Rounds, which mirror the tones in the Pendants and embellish the design. At the top of the Necklace the 4 strands of Coral transition to 4 strands of Tortoise Shell Heishi, streamlining the silhouette and ensuring a comfortable fit. The Necklace is finished with Sterling Silver Rounds and Toggle Clasp and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm. The piece weighs 116 grams and the 4 strands are 22 inches long plus the Pendants, which are 2-1/2 inches long by 5/8-inches wide (when wearing, a vertical length of about 10-1/2 inches).
